Groom's killer at Churchill Downs remains mystery

Louisville police are still scrounging for tips about what happened the night of May 5 and early morning of May 6, hoping someone can provide a key piece that leads them to who killed Perez, who was a groom at the track for trainer Cecil Borel. Workers on the backside of the track, which is separated from the surrounding working-class neighborhood by a fence topped with razor wire, said in the days after Perez's death that people were talking about what happened. [...] deaths are unusual. Since the discovery of Perez's body, the track hasn't made any changes in security procedures or operations, said Churchill Downs spokesman John Asher. Security officers work 24 hours a day every day in the barn area and seating areas and offices, along with Louisville police officers who pull part-time shifts as part of the track's security effort, Asher said.
